MARKET GLOSSARYTERMS THAT MOVE YOUR MONEY
Fed and FOMC
The Federal Reserve (Fed) is the central bank of the United States. Interest rates are decided by the FOMC, the open market committee, in eight meetings per year.
As the dollar is the world's currency, the Fed's decision affects all markets: higher American interest rates strengthen the dollar and tend to bring down technology stocks, which are the ones that weigh the most on the Nasdaq.
